We make it easy We do it all for you. You don't need to have any knowledge of Servers, or of FileMaker Server itself. Simply send us your FileMaker file(s) and we'll do the rest. We are also happy to talk you through the process on the phone. Most new customers are online with their systems within an hour. Low latency Latency is the delay in requests from your client copy of FileMaker in getting to and from the FileMaker server. If the majority of connections to your system from FileMaker Pro client software are from within the UK you can minimise this delay by using one of our servers. High bandwidth FileMaker also benefits from a good speed of connection. If you have tried the Speed Test on our home page you will have been testing the connection bandwidth between your location and one of our servers. You will also have been able to compare this bandwidth with Speed Test's recommended servers. They choose one as near to you as possible but where ever you are in the UK, you should have seen bandwidth near that achieved by their choice. The facility also generally runs at less than 50% of maximum capacity even during peak periods. At 9:30 am today (a peak time for logins) it is running at 19.1% of capacity. Of course it is also important that the actual server you are using is not overstretched. Our policy is to keep our servers running at less than 50% processor capacity. They only rarely go above this. We do this not only to ensure good service to our hosting customers, but also because we use the servers for our, and our development client's database files. If things start to run slow you can be certain we will take rapid action. The bar graphs below were captured at 9:40 am on a Tuesday. The processors are far from being stretched!
High reliability Our servers are in racks have both a battery-powered standby supply and a generator that can take over during longer outages. The racks are in a temperature controlled area to help equipment reliability. If a problem occurs the facility has staff on hand 24/7/365 who can reboot servers within minutes. We also have a standby FileMaker server waiting in the wings should a more serious problem occur. The facility has multiple feeds of the internet from different suppliers which arrive at the facility by different routes. Again this increases reliability. Multiple backups in different places Our policy is to backup client files every hour during UK office hours and a number of times outside office hours. These backups are kept locally but every other backup is copied to a standby system as well. These backups are kept 24 hours but there are also backups taken near the end of the week that are kept for 7 days. The end of day backup is also copied to a server in our offices so in the very unlikely circumstance the server facility went off line we could still access a recent copy of all customer files. No timeout It is standard practice for FileMaker hosting companies to have a timeout period for FileMaker Pro connections so they can have more systems on one server. This can be very frustrating for users. We only disconnect users when we need to reboot our system for an upgrade. It is common to see a few users who have been connected for a week or so. Long IWP timeout It is standard practice for FileMaker hosting companies to have a short timeout period for IWP connections so they can have more systems on one server. This can be very frustrating for users. We use a setting so that users are only disconnected after 20 minutes of IWP inactivity.
